Glitched Materialities: Building an Open-Source 3D Clay Printer with enorê

In this workshop, artist and researcher enorê introduced the possibilities of open-source ceramic 3D printing, exploring the technologies, materials and processes behind building and using a clay printer. Attendees also had the opportunity to design and print their own 3D ceramic model.
During the evening, enorê introduced their artistic practice and research alongside a practical overview of ceramic 3D printing. The talk covered:
• Introduction to the 3D clay printer, how it works and the printing process.
• Looking at different systems of 3D printing (delta, cartesian, etc), models and manufacturers.
• Understanding the multiple parts that compose the printer, what they do and how they work.
• Introduction to enorê's work and process.
Whether attendees were interested in ceramics, digital fabrication, open-source hardware, or experimental making practices, this session offered an accessible entry point into the field of clay-based additive manufacturing.
The public talk on Friday 17 July served as an introduction to a two-day workshop which focused on collectively assembling and operating a clay 3D printer based on JetClay's open-source design.
