LU YANG: THE DOKU TRILOGY
22 May – 6 September 2026
Lu Yang's The DOKU Trilogy opens across Vienna Digital Cultures 2026 at FOTO ARSENAL WIEN.
The DOKU Trilogy (2018–2025) explores the dissolution of selfhood across digital, biological, and spiritual systems. Lu Yang combines video game aesthetics, motion capture, and Buddhist philosophy to ask where identity resides when consciousness can be rendered, replicated, and endlessly reborn. Drawing on Yogācāra Buddhism's ālayavijñāna, or "storehouse consciousness," Lu Yang casts DOKU as a flickering assemblage of data, neurons, and spiritual concepts — asking whether a self decomposed into code, brain activity, and algorithm exists at all, or persists only as impermanent patterns cycling through networks.
Lu Yang is an internationally-exhibited Chinese artist, whose 3D animations and installations explore fundamental questions of the body and consciousness, spirituality and science, and the limits of being human.
