JUSTIN URBACH: PALE LIGHT//EYES SHONE

13 – 14 NOVEMBER 2026

Autotelic Foundation is pleased to present the debut screening of Justin Urbach’s latest media project PALE LIGHT//EYES SHONE. The project will launch at The Bacon Factory on the evening of 13th November, accompanied by further screenings on 14th November.

PALE LIGHT//EYES SHONE is a three-channel video installation in which three figures, or “Agents,” calibrate, activate, and archive a world suspended between reality and simulation. Part film studio, part virtual environment, it treats technology not as an invisible tool but as a physical, creative force that shapes perception, directs movement, and determines how a world comes into being.

At its centre is a virtual production studio dominated by a circular LED wall, where digital landscapes and abstract scenographies appear, shift, and dissolve. The Agents respond to these environments in real time while transforming them, creating a feedback loop between body, machine, and image. The studio becomes a techno-sculptural machine in which movement, technical control, and simulated space are inseparable.

Agent I, a spiritual technician and observer, calibrates cameras, aligns sensors, and reads invisible energetic relationships, bringing scattered elements together until a world begins to form. Agent II sets it in motion with a motorcycle ride through the new image spaces, carrying the landscape from a neon-drenched, data-driven city towards something natural and elemental. Physical effort becomes data; movement becomes world-building. From this accumulated energy, Agent III emerges in a cratered landscape, archiving what came before and using the terrain to store and redirect excess energy.

Constantly revealing its own construction, the film asks who, or what, controls the image, expanding into a science-fictional meditation on energetic cycles where body, machine, landscape, and image continually generate and transform one another.
